Implementing A Community Oriented Policing (COP)

or Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Program Course.

Overview:

This block of instruction will introduce the student to terms and definitions that are helpful in developing a COP program with a subset for countering violent extremism (CVE) program.  The course will describe how the basic four functions of a good COP program can be used to counter any community disruptor from gangs to terrorist groups.  The course will prepare the student to understand the need for measuring outputs as well as outcomes from the CVE program




Learning Objectives:

  • Learner will understand the distinction between integration and assimilation, utilization and engagement, a key communicator and the risk base.
  • Learner will gain an understanding of the critical components that are measured in an effective CVE program to include public trust, crisis planning, restorative justice, and intelligence requirements.
  • Learner will understand how a CVE program will positively impact the development of a robust intelligence-led policing program.
